Pattern for Tudor woman's fitted coat with skirts
• Made exclusively by The Tudor Tailor Sewing pattern for a woman's fitted coat with skirts of the style worn between the 1550s and 1603. Its shape is based in part on a pattern in an anonymous Austrian tailor's manual from 1590, the Leonfeldner Schnittbuch, and the sleeves with an ingenious elbow gusset are based on a 16th century sleeve now at London Museum (inventory number 22446) and other examples excavated in the Netherlands (inventory numbers 17T40 and 45T19.1). One of these is featured in The Tudor Tailor's latest book Textiles in Context. This is part of our new, improved pattern range. The graded pattern is clearer and easier to understand with differentiated lines for each size and the use of colour to indicate alternative cuts. A fully illustrated booklet is included with comprehensive step-by-step making instructions (for making by machine or by hand), guidance for choosing fabrics, and construction tips & techniques. Based on research carried out for The Typical Tudor book, including a survey of 57,687 items of dress. Highly researched and based on documentary descriptions, extant examples and paintings. See the image of the pattern envelope for specific sources. Our 2/2 twill woollen cloth is the perfect fabric for this coat. Please note, this garment is designed to be worn and fitted over other garments. The most usual would be a linen smock and a petticoat or kirtle. Note, photos of actual garments are examples only – no garments are included with this product.
