Bush Medicine - Munangu Mirrithin My name is Chern’ee Sutton and I am a contemporary Indigenous artist from the Kalkadoon people from the Mount Isa area in Queensland. This is my interpretation of “Munangu Mirrithin” which means in the Kalkadoon language “Bush Medicine”. First comes the fire, scorching and cleansing the land, setting the stage for new life and regrowth in Mother Nature's plants and trees. This cycle of fire and renewal allows bush medicine and plants to flourish, providing food and healing remedies. This vital knowledge and practice are passed down through generations, keeping the wisdom of our ancestors alive for the future. For generations, native plants and medicine have been essential to the lives of my people. They would gather plums and bark from the wild plum bush, using the plums as food and the bark to treat skin ailments. They collected wild lemongrass, boiling it to make a soothing lemon tea for sore throats. An assortment of leaves, flowers, nuts, berries, and seeds were prepared for various medicinal purposes, demonstrating the deep connection between our culture and the healing power of nature. Can be hung portrait or landscape, your choice.
