Modern Friction Tube Earrings with Carrie Story 8-21-26 In Person and Online

Date: Friday August 21, 2026 Time: 9:00am to 4:00pm EST Instructor: Carrie Story Format: In Person and Online Description: Inspired by the iconic earrings worn by Rebecca in Ted Lasso, this workshop blends contemporary design with artisan techniques to create a pair of striking, modern friction tube earrings. These aren’t just statement earrings—they’re conversation starters. In this hands-on class, students will begin by designing and forming their own fine silver metal clay elements to feature on the front and back of each earring. Once fired, you'll dive into precision fabrication techniques: filing, and bending sterling silver tubing using a pliers and miter vise, and learning how to solder the tube cleanly and securely to your fired clay components. From there, you'll fit and solder the 20g sterling wire, bend it into shape, and finish with polishing and optional patina. Some experience with metal clay or soldering is helpful but not required—come ready to learn and experiment. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: In-Person: Students will receive their kits in the classroom. You do not need to bring any materials or supplies. Online: Your kit will be mailed upon your registration. REQUIRED TOOLS: Torch, basic metal clay toolkit, Solderite or other soldering surface, brass brush, tumbler or rotary polishing tools, deep texture, template for shapes approx. 10-12mm and 15-20mm, pickle and pickle pot, soldering tweezers, medium mandrel Wubber pliers, and other large round pliers or round mandrels, wire cutter, Medium and Easy solder and flux, jewelers saw or mini saw, miter vise (not required but helpful), metal files.
