Large Carved Jar with Sgrafitto by Lucy Year Flower
This is a large and artfully designed and executed carved blackware jar by Lucy Year Flower (1935-2012). The carved design depicts a Avanyu with the background scratched with vertical lines of sgraffito work. Lucy Year Flower is a member of the Pojoaque Pueblo married into a member of the Tafoya family at Santa Clara Pueblo. This jar was awarded a First Prize at the 1990 Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial at Gallup, NM. The ribbon is included. The jar is in excellent condition without repairs, cracks or scuffs. She signed "Lucy Year Flower" " Pojoaque & Santa Clara" on the bottom of the jar. H. 7 ½"; D. 7 ½" c.1990 #8920
