Antique Victorian Albert Chain Necklace Silver 18ct Gold Gilt 18 Inch
This grand antique Victorian Albert chain is composed of chunky, graduated curb links leading to a classic T-bar, dog-clip, and large shield medallion. Crafted entirely from solid sterling silver, each component bears the prestigious British lion passant mark and has been finished in a rich layer of 18ct yellow gold gilt, giving the piece a warm, radiant glow. The T-bar and clasp are original to the chain and carry the same maker’s mark, “B.B.LD,” likely belonging to Booth & Biggs Ltd, alongside Birmingham hallmarks dating precisely to 1900. The ornate shield medallion is a later addition, hallmarked in Birmingham in 1910 and beautifully engraved with organic foliate motifs and delicate forget-me-nots - traditionally symbolising remembrance and enduring love. Lovingly preserved across the centuries, this heavy and substantial Victorian Albert chain has been thoughtfully reinvented for modern wear with additional chain extensions added to either end, extending the length to 18 inches and transforming it from a gentleman’s watch chain, into a striking contemporary statement necklace. It is perfect worn alone or layered with other gold chains for a stylish “neck mess” look.
