Each corner post is hand-rounded and sanded to preserve the honey-amber grain, live knots, and organic surface texture that develops naturally in aged cedar. The bark is removed by drawknife, exposing the raw wood beneath while maintaining the irregular curves and character marks that distinguish each log. Cedar selection prioritizes pieces with natural color variation and figure, ensuring no two beds are visually identical. The frame structure relies on mortise-and-tenon joinery, with vertical spindle rails mortised directly into corner posts on both upper and lower bunks—eliminating visible brackets or hardware and creating seamless structural connections throughout. Vertical support spindles run between rails on all four sides of each bunk, offering both structural integrity and traditional lodge aesthetics. The integrated side ladder features hand-cut rungs mortised into solid cedar stringers, angled for safe climbing and finished smooth to the touch. Both bunks include solid cedar slatted platforms that distribute weight evenly without requiring a box spring or center support beam. A protective finish is applied to highlight the natural cedar coloring while sealing the wood against moisture and seasonal movement. All mattress support surfaces are sanded smooth, with edges rounded to prevent splinters. The Queen lower bunk accommodates a standard Queen mattress, while the Twin XL upper bunk supports a Twin XL or Twin mattress with full-perimeter rail safety.
