RARE Mathieson Closed Handle Steel Smoothing Plane

RARE coffin-shaped dovetailed steel "Closed Handle" smoothing plane by Mathieson of Glasgow. Gunmetal lever cap with rosewood infill including original fully enclosed rear handle. Almost full length probably original Mathieson blade. I think the front infill (bun) has been replaced a long time ago but it has been done very well although I think in walnut. A really nice plane that you don't see very often at all. These fully enclosed handle smoothing planes were much more expensive to purchase at the time than the normal open handed ones. RARE !!!!!
