Select from three tail sizes based on your skill level and preference. A long tail feels stable and forgiving, whereas a small tail feels quick and responsive. If you're new to foiling, it's best to start with the longest tail, since this slows down pitch motions and gives you more time to react. This is tail is also great for letting you relax on long-endurance efforts, and is the default tail size that has shipped with the Freefoil since 2023. As your skill improves, decreasing your tail size will offer reduced effort at higher speeds, faster pitch response, increased maneuverability, and more clearance for rock starts. If you're already a pumpfoiler on a fairly small stabilizer, you might want to go straight to the shortest length. To estimate what size you might prefer, you can compare it to your current setup with the following formula: Pitch feel = stabilizer area x (stabilizer moment arm)^2 The stabilizer moment arm is the distance between the aerodynamic center of the wing and the aerodynamic center of the stabilizer (640mm, 520mm and 400mm for long, medium and short tails), and the stabilizer area is 340 cm^2. All of the tail options have the same stabilizer area since this was found to give the biggest reduction in drag for a given pitch feel. The short and medium tails come with wing covers. The long tail fits in the pocket of the travel bag and does not include a wing cover.
