This spectacular painted portrait c. 1874 is by the famed artist William Bishop Ford (1832-1922) a renowned British painter, celebrated for his museum-quality, hand-painted miniature portraits of pets (primarily dogs and horses) on enamel, gold, and porcelain. Trained under William Essex, the legendary Royal Enamel Painter to Queen Victoria. Ford's meticulous brushwork and fine detailing mirrored Essex's work. Encircled in 14k gold, this hand-painted portrait measures .80" across and weighs 4.8g. In excellent condition for its age, with some small surface wear.
