The AlphaShark's double-pass construction uses a second, shorter piece of nylon that runs beneath the case in addition to the main strap - so there are two layers of webbing between the spring bars and your wrist instead of one. A single-pass strap uses just one continuous strip of material running underneath the case. Both styles are pass-through designs, meaning the strap itself wraps under the watch case rather than attaching as two separate pieces. That's what makes pass-through straps - single-pass or double-pass - more secure than a two-piece strap: if a spring bar fails, the strap stays in place and keeps the watch on your wrist, since it isn't relying on the spring bars to hold two separate halves together.
