The 2026 edition of Lochlea’s annual Red Wine Cask release continues the Ayrshire distillery’s exploration of wine cask maturation, this time showcasing the influence of Sangiovese red wine casks from Tuscany. Initially matured in first fill bourbon barrels before being finished in carefully selected Sangiovese casks, this release builds additional layers of red fruit sweetness, gentle spice and soft oak onto Lochlea’s signature fruity and cereal-forward spirit character. Crafted entirely from barley grown on the distillery’s own farm, this is another excellent example of Lochlea’s full farm-to-cask philosophy. Bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural in colour, this limited annual release delivers a rich yet vibrant profile that balances fresh fruit, creamy sweetness and warming spice. ⸻ Nose: Bright fresh pink berries, sweet and floral, some oak and tannins. Palate: Fresh juicy red fruits, particularly berries and cherries, sweet vanilla and almond flavours like a strawberry shortcake. Finish: Finishing with rich oak, cereal, tannins and spiced biscuits.
