Late 1940's black vintage dress with split neck pleated yoke, vertical seams, 3/4 sleeves and flared skirt. Unlined jacquard. An interesting dress, it has no side fasteners so it's a pull on dress. I have a few of these and couldn't understand why they were made this way. During the War era (and post war) in Britain, clothing became streamlined due to rationing, and the lack of fabric and notions meant you had to be inventive. Some dresses, for example, had wider waists that pulled in with a tie belt. In the US, Claire McCardell created the Pop Over dress as a response to shortages - but at least they look easier to pop on! This means it is hard to get on if you're a 36" bust. I got around this by unpicking the side seam. Please bear this in mind if purchasing.
