Exhibition Tour – Madelon Vriesendorp: Mind Games | Thursday 10 September 2026, 12pm

Join Dr. Erin McKellar for this exclusive curator-led tour of our current exhibition, Madelon Vriesendorp: Mind Games. Join us to explore our major retrospective celebrating the surreal, subversive practice of artist Madelon Vriesendorp. Winner of the Soane Medal 2025, Vriesendorp’s work has been embraced by architects and architectural writers alike for its ability to give architectural theories memorable identities, helping to explain the complex ideas behind modern and postmodern architecture. She observes and understands the world through the objects in it, looking at everything through a surrealist lens. This has influenced her unique practice, in which humour, play, collecting and collaboration are at the fore. This exclusive tour offers the opportunity to delve deeper into the artworks on display in this unique show and explore key themes in dialogue with the exhibition’s curator. Ranging from early etchings, drawings and book covers to more recent work including jewellery, new works on paper and sculpture, this exhibition explores the creativity and imagination of an artist whose way of seeing continues to influence architects and artists today. About the event The tour will take place on Thursday 10 September, 12 - 1pm The tour will last approximately 45 minutes, and will be led by the exhibition's curator. There are 15 places per tour. Please convene outside the No.12 door of the Museum 10 minutes before your tour start time, where a member of our team will greet you and escort the group up to our Exhibition Galleries. You will be asked to put any small bags into our biodegradable clear bags to enter the Museum; alternatively, for bags that don't fit into our biodegradable bags, you will be asked to leave them in our cloakroom. About your tour guide Dr. Erin McKellar is Assistant Curator (Exhibitions) at Sir John Soane’s Museum in London. Here she leads the online exhibitions programme and curates shows in the gallery on modern and contemporary architecture. Her exhibitions reveal how Soane’s ideas are reflected in 20th- and 21st-century design. Her independent research centres on the design cultures of the 1930s and 1940s. She is the curator of Madelon Vriesendorp: Mind Games.
