Details Meat is rich in phosphorus but contains very little calcium, so an all-meat diet will be deficient in calcium, making it critically important to add calcium back in. Replace-A-Bone is suitable for all life stages. Replace-A-Bone is made from whole bone, which contains the ideal physiological ratio of calcium and phosphorus in a microcrystalline (MCHA) structure that enhances absorption and bioavailability. MCHA from whole bone is considered to be more effective than standard calcium supplements in maintaining bone mass in human populations. In addition, it is suggested that MCHA accelerates fracture consolidation in patients with osteopenia or osteoporosis and is significantly more effective in preventing bone loss than calcium carbonate. Ingredients Freeze-dried, 100% Australian grass-fed and finished beef whole-bone How to Use & Storage 1 tsp = 5 grams Adult dogs (> 12 months of age) If feeding dogs an amount of food based on percentage body weight: Adult dogs Add 2 tsp per 500 g of lean meat (85 - 90% lean)* Puppies Add 3 tsp per 500 g of lean meat (85 - 90% lean)* * Approximately per 1,000 calories fed If feeding adult dogs based on average calorie requirements according to body weight: Adult body weight < 9 kg 10 - 25 kg 26 - 40 kg >40 kg Dose 1 tsp 2 tsp 3 tsp 4 tsp Puppies (<12 months of age) Puppy body weight < 7 kg 8 - 15 kg 16 - 25 kg > 26 kg Dose 2 tsp 3 tsp 4 tsp 5 tsp Or as recommended by your animal healthcare professional. CAT DOSING Replace-A-Bone is also suitable for cats. As a general guide, add 1 tsp per 250g of lean meat fed. The importance of feeding lean meats Fat is relatively devoid of vitamins and minerals and contains a lot of calories. If your dog’s diet contains more than 20% fat, it will result in less vitamins, minerals and protein being present in the food, which will make the resulting diet nutritionally incomplete. This is especially important for puppies, pregnant and senior dogs, who need more nutrients than the average adult dog. Dietary fat should not be too low either. If the total fat content of the diet dips too much below 10%, you may start to see dry, itchy skin in your dog. This is one of the first signs of fat deficiency. So try to stay within the 10% to 20% fat range most days for adult dogs and around 10% fat content for puppies. This will ensure that your dog is getting everything they need nutritionally. StorageStore below 30 C in a cool dry place out of direct sunlight. Keep container tightly closed. Keep out of reach of children. Warnings & Contraindications You do not need to use Replace-A-Bone if: You are already feeding a ‘complete and balanced’ commercial food that contains calcium. Providing additional calcium in these instances could be detrimental to health. You use a supplement or base-mix that is designed to make a home-made diet complete and balanced i.e. Balance IT. You are feeding whole raw bones that can be completely consumed on a regular basis (i.e. daily or every second day).
