Moroccan Vintage Rug, Dihya, 1.5 mt. x 2.5 mt
Part of a private collector’s collection, this exceptional rug is approximately 50 years old and showcases the rich textile traditions of Morocco’s Middle Atlas Mountains. Handwoven from 100% wool and colored with natural dyes derived from flowers and plants, each rug is a unique expression of the artisan who created it. Crafted by Berber women, these pieces reflect generations of knowledge passed down through families and communities. The rug originates from the region of Ait Yaakoub, an area historically home to both Jewish and Muslim communities. Each community developed its own distinctive weaving traditions, contributing to the remarkable diversity of styles found in the region. Traditionally, every woman had a loom in her home and developed her own weaving language, resulting in rugs that are deeply personal and unlike any other.
