Held In The Opening

Beginning her paintings without a set destination, Paula Borsetti allows densely packed forms of magenta, soft pink, and pale yellow to dissolve into atmospheric washes and vertical pigment drips. She relies on a rigorous, intuitive cycle of applying, scraping, and excavating media to map an interior landscape. Revealing the stratified history of the canvas, the heavily worked pigment acts as a textural record. The surface reveals how landscape, memory, and identity coalesce and shape one another.
