There’s something about the way linen takes oil paint with a subtle, natural tooth that seems to hold the paint in all the right ways. The weave becomes part of the painting itself, adding a depth to my brushstrokes that could be felt as much as seen. That was especially true with a sky like this, where layers of cloud needed room to breathe and move.
