Envy, Echo and Narcissus: The Shadows of Self-love and Self-hate

Presented by international guest Susan E. Schwartz, this lecture explores the myth of Narcissus and Echo, not only as mythological figures but also how they appear as inner characters affecting all relationships – including the therapeutic relationship. The myth has contemporary cultural application as the roles of the masculine and feminine become increasingly more fluid. In this interpretation, Echo reaches out toward connection, while Narcissus refuses anyone but himself.
