Solid sterling silver with an 18 carat gold interior - which prevents oxidisation of the silver - the pomander draws on the Georgian custom of carrying fragrance in gold-smithed "vinaigrettes," its realistic form evoking neroli blossom on a warm breeze. Naturalistically modelled with hand carved leaves, invisible hinge and hammered orange "skin," the piece began as sketches brought to life by a Royal College of Art-trained wax sculptor. The orange leaf stems create an uninterupted loop for the chain to pass through.
