Naked & Famous Harionago Selvedge in Strong Guy

A 14oz Japanese selvedge denim woven at low tension and left unsinged, resulting in a hairy surface texture. Made from 100% cotton and rope-dyed in indigo. The denim draws its inspiration from the Japanese yōkai Harionago, a supernatural figure whose name translates to “Barbed-Hair Woman.” In Japanese folklore, Harionago is depicted as a beautiful but dangerous spirit who uses her long, thorn-like hair to ensnare and kill her victims. Her hair is often described as sharp, tangled, and inescapable; a visual metaphor echoed in the denim’s untamed, bristled surface. The unsinged fibers and rough texture mirror the creature’s wild hair, while custom artwork by Canadian artist Jacqui Oakley reinforces the narrative connection between folklore and fabric.
