Before the Pandals, There Was the Thakur-Dalan. Long before bamboo pandals rose on street corners, Durga Puja belonged to the bonedi baris — the old aristocratic houses of Shobhabazar, Jorasanko, Bagbazar — where the Goddess was worshipped in the family courtyard under a colonnade built for exactly this. This saree brings that courtyard onto its pallu. At the centre, Maa Durga in the ek-chala style: the whole family — Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartik, Ganesh — under a single chalchitra arch in deep red and cream, the lion at her feet, Mahishasura beneath. Around her, the house comes alive. Corinthian pillars and a hanging jhar-bati frame the dalan. Women in white-and-red sarees lean into aarti, lamps held high. A dhaki beats his drum in the foreground. The ghot with mango leaves and the kola bou stand ready at the threshold. The artwork is rendered in a soft, painterly palette — rust, terracotta, ochre, ivory — closer to an old lithograph than a poster, the way these houses look in the sepia photographs their families still keep. The body of the saree is clean white khadi, with a few small aarti figures scattered like distant guests, and a solid vermilion border running the full length — the classic laal paar — finished with a handmade tassel edge. This is a printed saree — high-definition digital printing on pure handloom khadi cotton, reproducing every hand-drawn line with precision and permanence. The art stays sharp. The drape stays effortless. It is a saree for the woman who knows that Pujo is not just a festival. It is an inheritance. Product Specifications Fabric: Pure handloom khadi cotton — breathable, textured, softens beautifully with every wash. Print: High-definition digital print — OEKO-TEX certified inks, fade-proof, wash-stable, skin-safe. This is a printed saree, not embroidered or hand-painted. Design: Bonedi bari thakur-dalan scene on the pallu — ek-chala Durga under a chalchitra arch, colonial pillars, jhar-bati, women in aarti, dhaki, ghot and kola bou — with scattered aarti motifs on the body and a solid red laal paar border. Colour: White ground with vermilion border and rust, terracotta, ochre and ivory print. Edge: Handmade tassel finish on the pallu border. Blouse piece: Not included. Origin: Proudly designed and Made in India. Style Tip This is the laal paar sada shari in its purest form — a plain red blouse and a gold choker, as in our shoot, and nothing else is needed. For Ashtami anjali, add a shankha-pola on the wrist. Pair with our Durga Puja panjabi for him, and you're the couple every para photographer follows into the dalan. They'll ask. Tell them.
