During this workshop students will discover that the accordion, one of the oldest, simplest book structures can transform to become very modern, sculptural artists’ books. This workshop offers students the opportunity to become acquainted with the book as artistic form. We will use a day of mono printing as a foundation for making content for our books and build a series of sculpturally impressive book forms capable of holding interesting stories and visual content. Each day students will investigate forms like flag books, leporellos, map folds, and various one page structures that all use a simple accordion as their foundation. Daily demonstrations of various book binding techniques using paper and fabric, mark making, mono printing and paper cutting will give students interesting foundational starting points to explore while experimenting with the individual content of their book forms. There will be space for further exploration of content as it relates to the forms the students are making, and also through samples of the instructor’s work which will be shared and discussed throughout the week. Workshop Schedule: Sunday Night: Welcome Reception at 6pm Monday – Friday: 9am – 4pm *Subject to change*
