IMC/ IR(R) Rating

The Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC) Rating, now officially known as the Instrument Rating (Restricted) or IR(R), is an optional addition to a Private Pilot’s Licence (PPL) that allows you to fly in reduced visibility and poor weather conditions. It’s specifically designed to improve safety and expand the conditions under which private pilots can operate. While not a full Instrument Rating (IR), the IR(R) is a valuable rating for PPL holders who want to build their confidence and skills for navigating in the UK’s often unpredictable weather.
