LaRural Claret
A wonderfully fresh, juicy Catalan claret made from 80% Macabeu, 10% Sumoll and 10% Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo). Pale ruby/dark pink in colour, with crunchy red berries, tart cherry and cranberry alongside lemony citrus and a distinctive herbal edge. Light-bodied and super refreshing, with bright acidity, a gentle savoury quality and a tangy, mouthwatering finish. At only around 10% ABV, this is exactly the sort of red/rosé crossover that loves a good chill. LaRural is the project of brothers Andreu and Xavi Padró, based in Santes Creus in Catalunya's Alt Camp. Their family has farmed grapes and other crops here for four generations, with the brothers beginning to make their own wine in 2018 in the basement of the family home. Their vineyards have been organically farmed since 2015. Inspired by Catalunya's natural wine movement, they focus on indigenous varieties and make bright, uncomplicated wines with gentle extractions and minimal intervention. Fermentations are spontaneous, cellar work is deliberately simple and their wines are made without added sulphur. The emphasis is very much on freshness and drinkability rather than extraction or weight.
