Pooley Syrah 2025
Pooley's Estate Syrah - the cool-climate Tasmanian Syrah expression, distinct from the Heritage-tier JRD Syrah. Made by Pooley Wines in the Coal River Valley, Tasmania, drawing on the house's two estate vineyards: Cooinda Vale (planted 1985, northeast slopes at 130m, maritime-influenced) and Butchers Hill (acquired 2003 at Belmont, Richmond). Cool-climate Syrah handling: partial whole-bunch ferment with French oak barrel maturation, preserving red cherry and spice over the warmer weight of mainland Shiraz. Nose: Red cherry, white pepper, violet, faint mint. Palate: Bright red-fruit weight with fine-line tannin and a peppered backbone. Finish: Long, peppered, lifted. Pairing: Game birds, lamb, mushroom-led dishes; a Northern-Rhone-style alternative for venues running cool-climate Syrah.
