2025 Benchmark Barbera

Tradition sings in Castellinaldo, the Italian village where the Marchisio family tends their grapes. These limestone hills, once a prehistoric ocean, give their Barbera joyful ripe cherry and violet, along with a mineral intrigue that invites another contemplative sip. When we dined with the Marchisio family this Easter, carolers in medieval cloaks sang songs as tajarin al ragù, made by a nonna two years shy of a century, arrived at our table. These wines resonate with those traditions and are best enjoyed at long dinners and longer tables.
