New Philosopher Issue 51

Published quarterly, New Philosopher explores philosophical ideas from past and present thinkers on ways to live a happier, more fulfilling life. What grabbed us about this issue… This issue is titled Make Some Noise as it explores the effects of noise in our increasingly loud world and the benefits of silence. We enjoyed reading about this broad topic from different angles like the science of how noise can affect things like stress, to artist Luigi Russolo and his depictions of noise in his paintings. Of course there is the usual angle of philosophy too, and we found particularly interesting the article 'Hiding Acoustically' about small talk and how humans fear silence. Who's New Philosopher for? Don't be put off by the title - New Philosopher is good for those new to philosophy as well as the more experienced. You can see the thinking that goes into each issue, with longer interviews sitting alongside shorter reads and visual infographics. The layout gives you room to breathe between each piece, so you can dip in and cherry-pick based on your interests.
