ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP The Merchant & Mills Edie is a simple top with full balloon sleeves. The sleeves are gathered with a tie threaded through a buttonhole, or with elastic if you'd rather skip the buttonhole. It suits lighter weight wovens: linen and linen blends, poplin, hemp, cotton chambray, Indian hand weaves and block prints, Tencel, or Tencel linen. Merchant & Mills rates it intermediate. This three-session Zoom sewing workshop focuses on construction: bias finishes, a curved hem, sleeve channels, and set-in sleeves. WHAT YOU’LL MAKE The Edie top in your choice of lighter weight woven fabric. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN Reading and working from a garment pattern Bias binding a neckline: a clean finish for necklines and armholes on tops and dresses Finishing a back neck opening with bias, from staystitching to a neat point Pressing a curved hem into shape with ease stitching, for shirttail and curved hems A sleeve channel with a threaded tie or elastic, the same method as an elastic waist Buttonholes: presser feet, testing, and sewing them cleanly from start to finish Setting in a full sleeve and finishing the seam cleanly WHAT YOU’LL GET 6 hours of live online sewing instruction across 3 Saturday morning sessions Multi-camera demos - top-down, machine-level, and table view, so you see exactly what’s happening at every step Video replay access to every session, with detailed written notes for each one A dedicated online workshop space for sharing progress, asking questions, and connecting with fellow students Lifetime access to all Edie Top replays, notes, and resources A NOTE ON FIT We'll cover fit and sizing in the first session. Due to the nature of Zoom workshops, complex fitting is beyond what we can cover thoroughly, but you'll leave the first session knowing your size and what simple adjustments to make before you cut.
