Berry Unexpected is a fruity 10 year Kentucky Bourbon distilled in Bardstown Kentucky that unexpectedly beat some heavy hitters, including a 13 year barrel, in a blind line up. Nose - On the nose you are immediately greeted with age, cherry and blueberry. A floral quality is present with a purple grape attached, further complimenting the blueberry notes. Sweet oak, leather, and tobacco are present with subtle, teas, cocoas, and a hint of citrus. The cherry note wants to drive as things open up. Palate - The palate is soft, round, and mature. This is a pour that benefits from air and additional time in the glass. Black cherry and blueberry to start, and the profile is closer to produce than candy and confectionery sugar. Grape, tea, and vanilla bean are present as well, as leather joins the floral blueberry notes. Finish - The finish is very mature and slightly drying with cherry, floral berries, lemon citrus, tea, and raw honey to start. Oak, leather, tobacco, and espresso, are all present, pointing not only to the maturity, but complexity of this Whiskey. The leather profile is equal parts, old and worn, as well as new and fine. The oak is sweet, and accompanied by vanilla as the finish closes out with a berried tartness and lemon citrus. Bottled at cask strength of 110.2 proof. Distillery pick up only. NO SHIPPING.
