Exploring College Options Class Lesson & Gallery Walk for High School Counseling

Engage students in meaningful college exploration with this interactive College Exploration Gallery Walk Lesson, designed for students in grades 9–12. In this hands-on activity, students research a college of their choice and create a personalized college flag highlighting important information such as academic programs, campus life, location, cost, and why the college interests them. Once the flags are complete, transform your classroom into a mini college fair! Students participate in a gallery walk to explore their classmates’ colleges, compare different options using a structured compare & contrast chart, and reflect on which factors are most important to them when considering their own postsecondary plans. This low-prep, ASCA-aligned lesson encourages college and career readiness, critical thinking, peer learning, and self-reflection while exposing students to colleges they may not have previously considered. The lesson is designed to take approximately 45–60 minutes and is perfect for school counselors, college and career advisors, advisory periods, AVID, or college readiness classes.
