Description Primary human sebocytes are difficult to obtain and lose proliferative capacity after a few passages, which limits their use in sebum, acne and skin barrier research. Biofargo Immortalized Human Sebaceous Gland Cells provide a stable, expandable human sebocyte model for in vitro studies. The cells were derived from the sebaceous gland of a 30-year-old male donor and immortalized by lentiviral transduction of the SV40 large T antigen. They grow as adherent polygonal cells on gelatin-coated vessels in epithelial cell medium and can be subcultured at 1:3 to 1:5. Specifications Item Specifications Catalog Number BFCL0142 Species Human (Homo sapiens) Tissue Source Sebaceous gland Disease Unknown Donor Age / Sex 30 years / Male Morphology Polygonal Growth Properties Adherent Immortalization SV40 large T antigen, lentiviral transduction Culture Medium Epithelial cell complete medium Culture Conditions 37 °C, 5% CO2; 0.1% gelatin-coated vessels Subculture Ratio 1:3 to 1:5 Medium Change Half-medium change every other day Biosafety Level BSL-1 Features Human sebocyte origin: Derived from human sebaceous gland tissue from a defined adult donor. Extended proliferation: SV40 large T antigen immortalization allows continuous expansion beyond the limited lifespan of primary sebocytes. Adherent epithelial growth: Polygonal adherent cells grown on gelatin-coated vessels with standard trypsin–EDTA passaging. BSL-1 handling: Suitable for routine cell culture laboratories. Applications Sebum production and lipid metabolism studies. Acne and sebaceous gland disorder models. Screening of dermatological and cosmetic active ingredients. Androgen, retinoid and hormone signaling in sebocytes. Skin inflammation and barrier function research. Kit Components Immortalized Human Sebaceous Gland Cells, 1 cryovial Product datasheet Storage & Shipping Shipped frozen. Store in liquid nitrogen. Storage at −80 °C reduces viability. Thaw and culture immediately upon receipt. FAQs What medium should be used for these cells?Use epithelial cell complete medium. Culture at 37 °C with 5% CO2. Do the culture vessels need coating?Yes. Coat vessels with 0.1% gelatin at 37 °C for 1 h and wash once with PBS before seeding. How were the cells immortalized? The cells were immortalized by lentiviral transduction of the SV40 large T antigen. How should the cryovial be thawed?Thaw quickly in a 37 °C water bath for about 2 minutes, transfer to 5 mL complete medium, centrifuge at 200 × g for 5–10 min to remove the freezing medium, and seed into a gelatin-coated flask. What subculture ratio is recommended?Subculture at 1:3 to 1:5 by flask surface area using 0.25% trypsin–0.53 mM EDTA. Documents BFCL0142 Product Datasheet (PDF)
