Set of 6 Niels O. Møller Model 78 Teak & Papercord Dining Chairs, Denmark, 1960s
A set of six Model 78 dining chairs designed by Niels O. Møller for J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik, Denmark. Made in warm-toned teak, the chairs have slender sculpted frames, gently curved three-bar backrests and woven papercord seats. The tapered legs continue naturally into the backrest, giving the chairs a light and balanced profile. The Model 78 is characteristic of Danish modern furniture of the period, combining carefully shaped solid wood with a visually light construction. Papercord became particularly associated with Danish furniture during the 1950s and 1960s, valued for its strength, natural appearance and compatibility with finely crafted wooden frames. The set has been fully restored, with the teak frames professionally restored and all six seats professionally rewoven in new natural papercord. The combination of warm teak and pale cord gives the chairs a graphic but understated appearance. Their relatively narrow proportions also make the set practical around both compact and larger dining tables. • Height: 80 cm / 31.5 in • Width: 48 cm / 18.9 in • Depth: 50 cm / 19.7 in • Seat height: 45 cm / 17.7 in • Material: Teak, papercord • Model 78 • Designer: Niels O.
