Hart and Son, London 1895 Violin
Geroge Hart, grandson of John Hart, a pupil of Sammuel Gilkes and founder of the prestigious violin firm Hart and Son, trained as a violin maker in Paris before re-establishing the firm in Wardow St, where it remained until 1939. George employed several skilled luthiers, including the Voller brothers, who produced a range of quality instruments, of which this is a very good example. The tone is balanced and beautiful with a full, singing resonance, depth on the lower strings and a laser-like focus, along with a brilliant, silvery character I the upper registers. Strong projection, coupled with colour and subtlety, make it an excellent and versatile choice for a performing musician.
