Inside a rare 1927 Martin guitar constructed from Hawaiian Koa wood. The Martin 0-28K is a rare all-koa wood acoustic guitar made by C. F. Martin & Co., created during the Hawaiian music craze that swept across the United States in the 1920s. To meet the growing demand for instruments capable of producing that warm, tropical sound, the Martin factory in Nazareth, Pennsylvania, began crafting guitars from Hawaiian koa, a beautiful and highly prized wood native to the islands. The “K” in the model name stands for koa. This particular instrument will celebrate its 100th birthday in 2027 and remains in exceptional condition. Inside, black linen strips reinforce its remarkably thin walls, while the original saw marks from its construction are still clearly visible - a century-old record of the hands and tools that brought it to life.
