Paul McCobb (1917–1969) was one of the most important American furniture designers of the postwar period - and his work drew more heavily on Shaker, Windsor and New England vernacular furniture than Scandinavian. This armchair was Model 1322 from his more sophisticated Directional Line - a remarkably delicate wood frame with a generously upholstered seat and back. Sweeping rear legs rise continuously into the tall back, while slender tapered arms and legs give the chair its distinctive, almost calligraphic profile. 1950 USA.
