Each spring the High Park Zoo llamas are sheared ahead of the summer heat and the fleece is taken to Grand Valley Fibre. The wool is a fundraiser - all funds go back to supporting capital projects at High Park Zoo. Friends of High Park Zoo (FHPZ) is a registered charity created expressly to generate support for High Park Zoo by raising sustainable funding and providing educational and event programming. The City of Toronto owns and operates High Park Zoo and collaborates with FHPZ to promote the enjoyment of Canada's oldest animal attraction. The Zoo's ten paddocks are home to a variety of animal species from around the world including Barbary sheep, bison, capybaras, geese, emus, llama, mouflon sheep, peacocks, reindeer, West Highland cattle and yak. The Zoo is located within High Park, between Jamie Bell Adventure Playground and the Grenadier Cafe. The Zoo is open to the public every day of the year, with no admission fee.
