Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the death of Sir Winston Churchill KG in 1965. The design features his Garter Stall Plate from St George’s Chapel in Windsor. The Most Noble Order of the Garter is the highest order of knighthood in Britain, founded by King Edward III in 1348. He is best remembered for his leadership during the Second World War and for leading Britain to victory against Nazi Germany, famously inspiring the nation with his speeches. The coin design features his Garter Stall Plate, a garter belt or strap with the words “Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pens”. Plus his full name and the date of his birth (1874) and his death (1965).
