Copper Typhoon

This is the second style of ring I made back when began making jewelry. It's become a lot cleaner and smoother over the last few years. This ring however is copper. Not steel. It is unsealed and will turn your skin green/blue. There's something amusing about picturing a copper typhoon. Many of us spend a great deal of our lives chasing something. Be it money, women, men, popularity, status, the ideal physique, adrenaline, drugs, sex, the list goes on and on. It sounds like a cruel and dispassionate genie granting a wish. You can have it, but you're not going to like the form you get it in. Growing up poor as shit, in more than just the financial sense, I believe I've developed a distaste for displays of wealth and power. On the one hand, I couldn't have it. I went a winter without heat on Long Island, sleeping in snow gear because we couldn't afford to fix the heating unit. My toes suffered chill blains while people in town drove porsches. Life has a way of forcing uncomfortable realities down our throat. This one: That luck doesn't smile equally on all of us. Some of us come into this world fucked. That doesn't have to mean you're forever fucked. But it does mean you have a series of some serious shit you have to make it through just to get to a starting line somewhere down the road. Assuming you're lucky enough to live. Lucky enough. Is it fair? I laugh in the face of that question. Of course it isn't. But what are you going to do? Really? You going to give up? Are you going to blame everyone and everything around you? It's not your fault you were given a hard lilfe, but it must be someone's right? I feel like at end of the day chance and luck play such a rediculous role, and it's too uncomfortable for us to sit with that. We need to feel like we're in control. But there's too much we have no control over. Things happen. Life happens. You did your best. You're doing the best you can. Some people get a mountain of pennies in their bank account. Others have to climb a mountain of pennies but can't touch them. And others get thrown into a copper typhoon.
