TaylorMade P7CB Irons
The TaylorMade P7CB is a forged cavity back for players who want honest feedback, clean aesthetics, and just enough forgiveness to keep the long irons playable. It sits between the hollow-body P770 and the pure muscle-back P7MC in the P-Series hierarchy — and for many single-digit players, it occupies the sweet spot. Construction and Technology The P7CB is forged from 1025 carbon steel using TaylorMade’s Compact Grain Forging process, which compresses the grain structure five times for a denser, more uniform material. The result is a particularly solid, responsive feel at impact — noticeably different from both the hollow-body P770 and the softer P7MC. The sole is 2mm wider than the P7MC, which provides a meaningful increase in turf interaction forgiveness without looking bulky at address. The CNC-milled face ensures consistent surface quality across every club in the set. There is no hidden technology here — no SpeedFoam, no tungsten, no hollow construction. The P7CB is a straightforward forged cavity back that relies on geometry and material quality rather than internal engineering. For the target player, this is the point. How it plays The P7CB provides clear, direct feedback on strike quality. Centre hits feel distinctly different from toe or heel strikes — unlike the P790 or P770 where the technology smooths out those differences. This is valuable for players who use impact feel to diagnose their swing and make adjustments during a round. Workability is excellent. The compact head, minimal offset, and traditional lofts (34 degrees in the 7-iron) make it straightforward to shape shots in both directions. Draws and fades respond predictably to setup changes. Forgiveness is moderate. The cavity back design provides more stability than the P7MC or P7MB on off-centre strikes, but this is not an iron that will rescue genuinely poor contact. The 2mm wider sole helps with turf interaction on slightly heavy strikes, but the thin topline and minimal offset demand reasonable consistency. Who is the P7CB for? Low single-digit players who prioritise feel, workability, and visual confidence over distance and forgiveness. The P7CB competes with the Miura TC-202, Mizuno Pro M-13, and Srixon Z-Forged II — traditional forged cavity backs for skilled ball strikers. Players who find the P770 too “assisted” but the P7MC too demanding will find the P7CB is exactly the right balance. Combo Set Options The P7CB is designed to blend with the entire P-Series: P770 (4-5) + P7CB (6-PW) — hollow-body assistance in long irons, forged CB feel in scoring clubs P7CB (4-7) + P7MC (8-PW) — cavity back stability through mid irons, muscle cavity precision in scoring irons P7CB full set (4-PW) — the most common configuration for consistent feel across the bag The P7CB and P7MC share identical loft, lie, and offset specifications, making combo sets completely seamless.
