At the centre, Theresa looks directly outward — a self-portrait, placed deliberately between a Māori Rangatira on her left and Queen Victoria on her right. The document they negotiated sits beneath it all. This is Theresa's most personal work in the series. She carries both Ngāpuhi and European whakapapa — the two parties who stood on either side of that signing — and rather than observe that tension from a distance, she places herself inside it.
