Fox & Lilies 48 x 48
Fox & Lilies is one of my favorite pieces from this year. She's a continuation of some themes around lilies I've been working on — I'm not done with them yet. One of my favorite things as a painter is when I've been working on a piece for months and I can't seem to make it work, and then in about a 45-minute window I finish something that's taken months to resolve. This piece was just that. She's full of hope here. And resilient. About the piece 48 x 48, oil on wood panel with a 2.25-inch gold-leafed edge. Built up in about 30 layers — graphite drawing on the wood first, then oil paint, washes, glazes, and metal-leaf. The processes here take weeks. The gold-leafed edge means she's ready to hang as is, no framing needed. Original, one of a kind.
