Celestron Moon Filter Set - 1.25"
The moon is the most popular object in our Solar System to observe with a telescope. It's easy to find in any telescope without the need for star charts or a computerised mount and its full of fascinating geological features that can look simply incredible through a powerful telescope. However the Moon is incredibly bright, in fact bright enough to light up the surrounding countryside on a clear night and this brightness is even more of a factor at high maginification through a telescope. The brightness of the moon through the eyepiece can really wash out most of the fine lunar details and be straining on your eyes. Lunar filters improve the image by reducing glare from the bright moonlight, increasing contrast, and therefore make faint details more visible. Amateur astronomers refer to lunar filters as "sunglasses for the moon" because they allow for more comfortable viewing. The eyes are less strained and fatigue less quickly. This filter set contains everything you need to observe the moon in its various phases. The set allows you to select the best filter for different eyepiece and telescope combinations. Use the darkest filter with large-aperture telescopes and lower-magnification eyepieces. Use the weaker filters with smaller telescopes and higher-magnification eyepieces. This kit is essential for those who want to take the next step in exploring the full viewing capabilities of their telescope, or for experienced lunar observers who use a variety of telescopes and eyepieces to observe the moon. This kit contains: Three neutral density (ND) filters: ND96-0.9 (13% transmission), ND96-0.6 (25% transmission), and ND96-0.3 (50% transmission) - These filters dim the entire visual spectrum from 400-700nm uniformly. The ND96-0.9 filter transmits 13% of the incident light The ND96-0.6 filter transmits 25% of the incident light The ND96-0.3 filter transmits 50% of the incident light. They do not alter the color of the moon's image but reduce its brightness to a comfortable level. With a selection of several ND filters, you can find the perfect level of brightness depending on the moon's phase, your telescope's aperture, and your eyepiece's magnification. ND filters can also be used to observe the dazzlingly bright planet Venus, allowing you to better see its phases. The Moon & Sky Glow filter: This filter selectively reduces light transmission at various wavelengths, significantly improving contrast for observing subtle lunar features. It gives the Moon a very bright purple hue. For observers under light-polluted skies, the Moon & Sky Glow filter offers some contrast enhancement when viewing deep-sky objects: it suppresses certain typical wavelengths of stray light, such as that emitted by low-pressure sodium (LPS) streetlights. Sturdy plastic storage box: The moon filter set comes with a foam-padded plastic box. This allows you to store all four filters safely when not in use and transport them securely. Moon map with legend: Familiarize yourself with the Moon, our neighboring world, using our handy moon map. The map includes a small legend highlighting 17 interesting features, including the Sea of Tranquility and the craters Tycho, Plato, Copernicus, and many more. Filter Housing: Each filter is encased in an aluminum cell, providing a stable and durable mount for the filter glass. The filters simply screw onto Celestron 1.25" eyepieces and most other 1.25" eyepieces with standard filter threads. The filters are threaded on both ends, allowing them to be combined with other filters too. Whats included: x4 Celestron Moon and Sky Glow filters
