Beautiful early Victorian-era brass monocular compound microscope by noted London scientific instrument maker H. Crouch. The brass tube is engraved: H. Crouch 51 London Wall London 689 Based on the 51 London Wall address and low serial number, this microscope likely dates to approximately 1871–1872. The microscope is accompanied by its fitted wooden traveling case and a selection of period accessories, including multiple brass eyepieces and objective canisters, a freestanding bull’s-eye condenser, mirror assembly, and additional components shown in the photos. The brass retains an attractive aged finish with patina, surface marks, and wear consistent with a scientific instrument that is more than 150 years old. The wooden case shows age-related wear, scuffs, discoloration, and empty fitted compartments where additional accessories may originally have been stored. Condition: Antique pre-owned condition with expected age-related wear. The microscope and accessories have not been professionally tested. Optical clarity, mechanical accuracy, and completeness are not guaranteed. Some accessories may be missing. Please review all photos carefully, as they are an important part of the description. A wonderful addition to a collection of antique scientific instruments, Victorian medical equipment, microscopes, or decorative curiosities. Includes microscope, fitted wooden case, and accessories exactly as pictured.
