Girard-Perregaux is one of the oldest Swiss watch manufacturers, tracing its roots back to 1791 when Jean-François Bautte created his first timepieces in Geneva. The company as it is known today was officially established in 1856 through the merger of Bautte’s firm with that of Constant Girard. Girard-Perregaux became renowned for its innovative movements, especially the Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges, which won a gold medal at the 1889 Paris Universal Exhibition. Throughout the 20th century, the brand pioneered developments in high-frequency movements and quartz technology, including creating the first quartz watch with a 32,768 Hz frequency, a global standard.
