Old Elk Single Barrel Select #25-45663 "Whiskey Noobs" Exclusive Barrel Selection

As a 10yr wheated bourbon, this release comes from one of the first barrels that Greg Metze put up when he became Master Distiller at Old Elk. It's a viscous, full-bodied pour, with the usual oaky sweetness, vanilla, and touch of bready flavor that you might expect from a wheated bourbon, but it also brings a couple of interesting twists - there is a distinct note that Brandon (Whiskey Weather) and I both called out as reminding us of soda - for me, it is specifically cherry cola. On top of that, there is a nice mix of baking spice and apple flavor that balances out the bready sweetness, for a well-rounded experience that covers your whole palate. From the nose to the finish, this is a fantastic barrel of whiskey, brought to you uncut at 128.1 proof. If that's too hot for you, have no fear - a couple drops of water can go a long way!
