The Downeast Hawaiian GAC blends the balanced comfort and responsiveness of Dana Bourgeois’ Grand Auditorium Cutaway design with the unmistakable beauty and tonal richness of all-koa construction. Originally developed by Dana in the late 1980s to bridge the gap between a dreadnought and OM, the GAC pairs a long scale with a shallow body for a voice that is articulate, immediate, and highly versatile. Built with Hawaiian koa back, sides, and top, this model delivers a warm, sweet tonal character with rich midrange presence and a smooth, shimmering high end. As the guitar opens up over time, koa’s naturally expressive voice continues to deepen and mature, rewarding players with increasing complexity and musicality. The cutaway design provides effortless upper-fret access, making the Hawaiian GAC equally suited for accompaniment, fingerstyle playing, and lead work. Designed by Dana Bourgeois and built with tonewoods hand-selected by Dana and Master Luthier James Witkus, all Launch Edition guitars were closely supervised by Dana during the voicing process to ensure the highest standard of quality and tonal response.
