Mexico Sierra Sur - Espresso
Mexico Sierra Sur - Espresso ****************************************************** Producers + Mill: During the 2022 season, we were contacted by two producers located in San Agustin Loxicha; Miguel Arellanes, and Luisa Lopez Silva. They reached out to our export partners Red Beetle, having learnt of our buying practices through the producers Los Hermanos Luna, who we also purchase from. We are excited to see our buying practices being shared amongst producers, because the internal market remains volatile, with little to no additional payment for quality. By incentivising high quality production alongside two stable payments (first on export, second on import), your buying can improve the lives of more and more coffee producers, receiving the maximum profit possible for their work. Fun fact! You will notice that we have not provided farm names for these coffees. In Mexico, farm names for small scale producers such as these are very rare. This is because the average producer here owns and works on several small fields surrounding their village. And as such, each village has its own structure for organising coffee production. Some are organised as private entities, where land is bought, sold, and passed onto children. Others are entirely communal, where parcels of land are shared and tended as a collective. Around 90% of the land in Oaxaca is communal. Some of the only private lands in the Oaxacan coffee regions are in the Sierra Sur and Mazateca. ****************************************************** Variety: Mundo Novo is a natural hybrid of Typica sub-varieties, Sumatra and Bourbon. Discovered in Brazil in the 1940s by the Instituto Agronômico de Campinase, the plant is strong, tall (3 m) and resistant to diseases and strong wind. Due to these features and its good cup quality, Mundo Novo is one of the most common amongst Brazilian coffee cultivators, forming around 40% of all grown coffee varieties within the country.Mundo Novo’s productivity is high but its cherries ripen somewhat later than other varieties. Its best growing heights are between 1,050 to 1,670 metres above sea level, with rainfall of 1,200 to 1,800mm per annum. Pluma Hidalgo coffee, known for its exceptional quality and distinctive flavour, is an Arabica coffee variety predominantly cultivated in the picturesque Pluma Hidalgo region of Oaxaca, Mexico. Grown at elevations ranging from 900 to 1,500 meters above sea level, this coffee embodies the essence of Mexican coffee culture, offering a unique flavour profile that enchants coffee enthusiasts worldwide. The flavour development of Pluma Hidalgo coffee is intimately linked to the region's volcanic soil and geography. The volcanic soils are rich in minerals and nutrients, providing the coffee plants with the essential elements needed for optimal growth and flavour. The steep slopes and misty mornings of the Pluma Hidalgo region contribute to the coffee's unique character. The balance between these elements, combined with the hands-on care of local farmers, results in a coffee that embodies the spirit of Oaxaca. ****************************************************** Process: Info Coming soon! ****************************************************** Region: Sierra Sur, Oaxaca Producer: Blas Jacinto Farm:Sierra Sur Co-op Importer: Raw Material Price (green ex Shipping): £12.65 p kg Variety: Mundo Novo, Pluma Hidalgo Process: Honey Altitude: 1450- 1900masl Amount Bought 207kg Tasting: Medium acidity, balanced, High sweetness, fruity Flavours like: Cherry, cola, marzipan
