Fender Coronado XII with Rosewood Fretboard 1967 - Cherry Red

The 1967 Fender Coronado XII in Cherry, often referred to simply as the Coronado II, is a distinctive semi-hollow electric guitar that occupies a unique place in Fender’s history. Introduced during the mid-1960s, the Coronado series represented Fender’s bold foray into the hollow and semi-hollow market, directly challenging the dominance of Gibson and Gretsch in that segment. Unlike Fender’s well-known solid-body instruments, the Coronado offered a more open, resonant voice with a decidedly different tonal palette, appealing to players seeking both visual flair and sonic character. This example features a laminated maple body with elegantly bound f-holes, a bolt-on maple neck, and a bound rosewood fingerboard adorned with block inlays. Its slim “C” profile neck offers fast, comfortable playability across the full 25.5-inch scale length. The guitar is fitted with two DeArmond-designed single-coil pickups, prized for their articulate, shimmering top end and warm midrange, giving the Coronado a voice that sits beautifully between the snap of a Telecaster and the chime of a vintage Gretsch. It is being sold with its original case. Hardware includes a floating rosewood bridge with adjustable saddles, very cool looking tailpiece that adds a touch of class. The hardwear is in excellent condition. The double-cutaway body shape and stylized f-holes are unmistakably mid-century Fender, blending elegance with a slightly unconventional charm. The Cherry finish, deep and vibrant, was among the most coveted color options of the period, alongside Sunburst and the very rare Antigua. Condition notes: This guitar bears the natural marks and dings expected of a well-played instrument from the late 1960s.
