Publisher's binding with paper-covered boards of ornate teal with gold-gilt and darker blue embossed designs and a hand-coloured lithograph inlay of a knight. Includes frontispiece and other engravings. Pasted-in ephemera indicating that the item was awarded as a prize book from Maison des Dames des Sacrés Coeurs, 17 Aout (August) 1869. CONDITION: Fair to good condition. Spine rubbed and bumped at top and bottom with a large chip at the head of the spine and some peeling. Boards cracked at gutter on both sides. Corners bumped. Collate complete. Foxing and stains throughout. Old bookseller notes on front free endpaper and back pastedown. Two pieces of ephemera pasted to front paste down, a sticker marked "Bertrand-Hu Imprim.- Libraire", and a prize book certificate.
