The bristles are brass wire, softer than steel, so they clear residue without chewing up enameled or porcelain-coated grates. The body is untreated beechwood, left raw with no stain or varnish to break down near heat. It will gray and darken with use, the way an honest wooden tool does. Grip the wooden body in your palm and scrub in short strokes along the length of each rod. Lean into it. The palm shape is built to take pressure straight down through the bristles. Wipe clean with warm water and dry immediately. Never soak untreated wood or put it in the dishwasher.
